About
Hi, thanks for stopping by! I am an Assistant Professor of Political Science at the Department of Political Science and Public Administration, VU Amsterdam. I work in comparative politics, political behaviour, political economy and political methodology.
I received a Ph.D. in Political Science from the European University Institute (EUI) in 2021, an M.Res. in Political Science from the EUI in 2017, an M.Sc. in Comparative Politics from University College London (UCL) in 2014 and a B.A. in Translation Studies from Shanghai International Studies University (SISU) in 2013. Before joining VU, I was a Research Fellow at the EUI on the ERC synergy project SOLID.
I am a faculty affiliate to the Network Institute, VU Behavioural Lab, Resilience, Security and Civil Unrest Lab (ReSCU), and Artificial Intelligence and Digital Governance Lab (AIGD).
My current substantive research focuses on European politics, comparative political economy of crisis and macro-policy, party & electoral politics and political mobilisation. Methodologically, my current research agenda revolves around Bayesian and nonparametric statistics, measurement, time series analysis and machine learning & AI. I am also interested in combining the aforementioned methods with other causal inference and computational techniques. My work has been published in journals including the British Journal of Political Science, Comparative European Politics, European Political Science Review, European Union Politics, Journal of European Public Policy, Party Politics, West European Politics, as well as by Cambridge University Press. My research has been supported by grants from the Dutch Ministry of Education, Culture and Science (OCW), the Network Institute and VU Interdisciplinary Centre for European Studies among others.
I currently teach undergraduate- and graduate-level courses in comparative politics and research methods at VU. Beyond the university, I also teach advanced methods at international summer schools, including the ECPR Methods School, where I received the Cora Maas Award for Best Course, the Summer School in Social Science Methods, Lugano, and the IPSA Summer School.
