About
Hi, thanks for stopping by! I am an Assistant Professor of Political Science at the Department of Political Science and Public Administration, VU Amsterdam. I work in comparative politics, political behaviour, political economy (with a focus on advanced industrial democracies) and political methodology.
I received a Ph.D. in Political Science from the European University Institute (EUI) in 2021, an M.Res. in Political Science from the EUI in 2017, an M.Sc. in Comparative Politics from University College London (UCL) in 2014 and a B.A. in Translation Studies from Shanghai International Studies University (SISU) in 2013. Prior to my appointment at the VU, I was a Research Fellow at the EUI in the ERC synergy project SOLID.
I am a faculty affiliate to the Network Institute at the VU, VU Behavioural Lab, Resilience, Security and Civil Unrest Lab (ReSCU), and Artificial Intelligence and Digital Governance Lab (AIGD).
My current substantive research focuses on the politics of macroeconomic policies, party & electoral politics, political mobilisation and European politics. Methodologically, my current research agenda revolves around Bayesian and nonparametric statistics, measurement and time series analysis. I am also interested in combining the aforementioned methods with other causal inference and computational techniques. My work has appeared in the British Journal of Political Science, European Political Science Review, Journal of European Public Policy, West European Politics, European Union Politics, Comparative European Politics, and in volumes published by Cambridge University Press. My research has been supported by grants from the Dutch Ministry of Education, Culture and Science (OCW) and VU Interdisciplinary Centre for European Studies among others.
I currently teach undergraduate- and graduate-level methods courses as well as a substantive course on comparative politics at the VU. Beyond the university setting, I am also teaching advanced methods courses at the ECPR Methods School where I won the Cora Maas Award.
